Greek media are portraying the U.S. Kimberly Guilfoyle affair as a political drama exposing the influence of personal connections, celebrity and business interests in Trump-era American diplomacy, with allegations of misconduct contributing to her abrupt departure.
Within center-right Greek media (Greece's ruling government is center-right New Democracy), commentators warn that Greece may have mistaken Guilfoyle’s proximity to Trump for genuine political influence, raising concerns about America’s changing role as a reliable and predictable ally.
Our Analytic View
The U.S.-Greek Relationship probably will see 3-6 month setback in relations due to perceived personal loyalties to the Trump Administration. However, mutual interests on Eastern Mediterranean security, including cooperation with Israel, will remain areas in which cooperation will return to normalcy for the long term.
Strategikon has not yet published an analysis on Greece-U.S. relations.
